Representatives of Reunion Manganese and Ferroatlantica paid a courtesy call, on Thursday 30th May 2013, on the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Brigadier David Granger, MP, at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition.
The Leader of the Opposition welcomed the visitors and introduced the APNU team which was comprised of the Shadow Ministers for: Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment, Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine, MP; Legal Affairs, Attorney General and Labour, Mr. Basil Williams, MP; and Local Government and Regional Development, Mr. Ronald Bulkan, MP, along with the Policy Adviser, Mr. E. Lance Carberry.
The Reunion Manganese team was led by Mr. David Fennel and included Messrs Joe Byah, Dr. Grantley Walrond; and Major General Norman Mc Lean and the Grupo Ferroatlantica team was led by Mr. Francisco Javier Fernandez Bescos, and included Messrs Rafael Fuentes and Juan Luis Bernardo.
Grupo Ferroatlantica, a diversified Spanish company, has expressed their interest in investing in the manganese operations of Reunion Manganese. Therefore, the purpose of the visit was to acquaint the Leader of the Opposition and APNU with the expected partner of Reunion Manganese.
The APNU team was provided with an insight into the intended relationship between the two groups. The opportunity was taken to outline the concerns of APNU for the environmentally and socially sustainable development of the mineral resources of Guyana for the benefit and wellbeing of all Guyanese including the indigenous communities.
The Leader of the Opposition expressed the support of APNU for a successful outcome of the discussions between the two groups.
