A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) joins with the rest of the International Community in its observance of Saturday 21st September 2013 as the day designated by the United Nations as International Day of Peace.
APNU accepts and recognizes that an environment of sustainable peace is a necessary condition for harmony and human development.
APNU embrace the theme of this year’s observances “Education for Peace” and join the call for our children to be taught the value of tolerance and mutual respect, and for Go
vernments to invest in schools and teachers that will build a fair and inclusive World that embraces diversity.
APNU calls on all Guyanese especially our youth to realize the importance of peace and the need to resolve conflict in non-violent ways. On this International Day of Peace, therefore, APNU calls on civil society, the religious and faith based communities and all those entities and individuals who should, collectively and individually, be contributing towards the creation of a national environment for sustainable peace and security, to express and demonstrate their abhorrence of the daily acts of discrimination, victimization, corruption, violence and illegalities of all kinds, and to stand ready to join forces in rooting out those in our midst who are responsible for perpetuating these evils.
Where there is injustice, there can be no peace, so let us fight for peace and defend it with all our might.
