A Partnership for National Unity (A.P.N.U) officially launched its partnership for a “Government of National Unity” on Friday 15th July 2011, at the Convention Centre of the Ocean View International Hotel, Liliendaal, Georgetown. A.P.N.U used the occasion to unveil its plans to bring an end to the divisions that have plagued our country for the last half of a century and open the way to a new era of national harmony.
On Friday 24th June, the Joint Opposition Political Parties (JOPP), had announced the formation of, “A PARTNERSHIP FOR NATIONAL UNITY, (A.P.N.U)”, to contest the 2011 General and Regional Elections. It was explained then, that the A.P.N.U is not a political party, but an association of political parties, Guyanese organisations and citizens that share a common desire to ensure a bright future for our country and citizens, guided by our Statement of Principles.
On that occasion the Parties made public the joint DECLARATION in which they formally asserted their commitment to establish a Government of National Unity, headed by Mr. David Arthur Granger. The Declaration sets out clearly the objectives of the Partnership as well as the guiding principles. The Statement of Principles and the specimen Membership Forms of A.P.N.U were also made available to the public. Many organisations and individuals have since signalled their interest in being a part of this historic development and the launching ceremony on Friday 15th July will usher in the opportunity for according formal membership to these organisations and individuals.
Several other launching programmes were held at various locations around Guyana during the month of July to inform as many Guyanese as possible of the Government of National Unity. On Friday 22nd July, a similar programme was held in Linden while another was held on Saturday 23rd July in New Amsterdam. These activities culminated with a mass rally in Georgetown on Friday 29th July 2011 at the Square of the Revolution.
